About

Ulmo Journal is a personal writing space — part portfolio, part creative workshop.

Here I publish pieces I’m working on, experiment with ideas, and share writing that matters to me. Some entries are polished essays or stories, while others are fragments, reflections, or drafts that capture a moment of thought.

Much of my writing centres on communication — the field I work in — and the importance of choosing the right words, at the right time, with the right tone, especially across cultures and countries. Living in Patagonia as a foreigner shapes many of these reflections. I often write about language, women’s perspectives, and small field notes on culture and everyday life.

When I’m not writing, I’m teaching, consulting, or spending time with my kids. I’m partial to stormy oceans, starry skies, a good book, and mornings softened by coffee.

Think of it as a living notebook — one that’s open to the public.

Why “Ulmo”?

The ulmo tree is native to southern Chile, and when it flowers in summer, it transforms the landscape.

I chose the name because it has quietly become my favourite tree—something I look forward to each year. It belongs to Patagonia, and over time, it has become something I love.

This site returns often to questions of roots, belonging, the feminine gaze, and resilience. In its own way, the ulmo holds all of these.

The Goal

Over time, this site will become a portfolio of my writing, showing both finished work and the path taken to get there.

If you’re reading, thanks for stopping by.
